USSR 1991 – Sheet of 8 stamps featuring sailing ships and portraits of historical figures (Mi. 6181) is an impressive philatelic issue combining maritime and biographical themes.
Each stamp depicts:
- A portrait of an outstanding historical figure (Grigory Ivanovich Shelekhov (1747-1795) was a Russian sailor and merchant),
- An illustration of a sailing ship on the high seas (Port on Kodiak Island, 1784) – dynamic scenes emphasizing the nature of travel and exploration.
The stamps are arranged in a 3 × 3 format (a total of 9 fields, including 8 stamps), and the whole is surrounded by a decorative frame with wave and ship motifs, giving the sheet a coherent and aesthetic appearance.
