The coin was issued by the National Bank of Poland to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Polish settlement in North America, which took place in 1608 in Jamestown, the first English colony in America.
The obverse of the coin features the figure of a Polish artisan working on blown glass, symbolizing the contribution of Polish settlers to the economic development of the colony. In the background are scenes from the lives of the early settlers, including interactions with indigenous people.
The reverse of the coin repeats the image of a Polish settler, surrounded by the inscription: “Polish Settlement in North America” and ”Jamestown 400th Anniversary.” The entire coin is decorated with relief scenes depicting the daily life of the settlers and the influence of the Poles on the development of the colony.
