Poland 1938 – 20th Anniversary of Independence – Historical Series in Blocks of Four (32 MNH Stamps)

This collection consists of 32 mint never hinged (MNH) stamps from one of the most admired philatelic issues of the Second Polish Republic, released in 1938 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. The stamps are preserved in eight complete blocks of four, enhancing both their visual appeal and collector value.

The issue presents major events and historical figures from Polish history, illustrating the continuity of the Polish state from the early Piast dynasty to the adoption of the Constitution of May 3rd. This series is regarded as one of the finest achievements of interwar Polish stamp design.

Stamps included in the set:

310 (5 gr) – Bolesław I the Brave welcoming Emperor Otto III in Gniezno, accompanied by a symbolic figure of Saint Adalbert

311 (10 gr) – Casimir III the Great and foreign monarchs welcomed by Mikołaj Wierzynek

312 (15 gr) – Władysław II Jagiełło, Queen Jadwiga and the Rector of the University of Kraków with the endowment charter; below are a Teutonic helmet and the Grunwald swords (two blocks of four – 8 stamps)

313 (20 gr) – Casimir IV Jagiellon against a map of Poland

314 (25 gr) – Sigismund II Augustus during the oath ceremony of the Union of Poland and Lithuania in Lublin

316 (45 gr) – Hetmans Stanisław Żółkiewski and Jan Karol Chodkiewicz
