FDC issue "85th anniversary of the Katyń Massacre"
Catalogue number: 2356
Issue date: 13-04-2025
On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre, the Polish Post has issued a stamp commemorating the victims of the Soviet crime against Polish officers.
The graphic design by Agata Tobolczyk depicts the silhouette of a Polish Army officer wearing a cap, standing with his back against a background of a pine forest, symbolizing the crime scene. In the lower part of the stamp appears spilling red, recalling both blood and dramatic historical events. The background of the sheet is complemented by a gloomy forest scene with blood red streaks at the bottom, reinforcing the message of remembrance of the victims.
The main graphic motif of the FDC envelope is a map of Eastern Europe with crime scenes marked, including Katyn, Tver-Mednoye, Kyiv-Bykivnia, Minsk-Kuropaty. Each of these sites is marked with a graphic of a forest with red streaks - a strong visual reminder of the numerous places of execution of Polish officers.
The postmark graphic depicts a uniform button with an image of a crowned eagle.
