The year 2026 has been designated by the Polish Parliament as the Year of Polish Railways, marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Polish State Railways (PKP) on 24 September 1926, following a decree issued by President Ignacy Mościcki.

To commemorate this milestone, Polish Post has issued the stamp block “100th Anniversary of the Establishment of Polish State Railways”, illustrating the development of rail transport in Poland from the interwar period to the present day. The issue presents four iconic railway vehicles representing successive stages of modernization and technological progress.

All designs were prepared in consultation with and approved by Polish State Railways S.A. (PKP).

The block consists of four postage stamps, each depicting a railway vehicle representing a different era in the history of Polish rail transport.

🚄 Lux-Torpeda

The first stamp features the famous Lux-Torpeda, one of the most advanced rail vehicles of the interwar period.

Introduced in the 1930s, it was renowned for its modern engineering, speed and passenger comfort. It became a symbol of innovation and the modernization ambitions of the Second Polish Republic.

🚂 Intercity Nieśpieszny (ICN)

The second stamp presents the Intercity Nieśpieszny (ICN) train set, recalling traditional long-distance passenger trains hauled by electric locomotives.

The motif reflects the period of rapid development of national passenger services and the key role of railways in Poland during the second half of the twentieth century.

⚡ EU160 Griffin

The third stamp depicts the EU160 Griffin electric locomotive, one of the most modern locomotives currently operated by PKP Intercity.

Designed and manufactured in Poland, it symbolizes the growth of domestic railway technology and the ongoing modernization of rail transport.

🚅 ED250 Pendolino

The fourth stamp shows the ED250 Pendolino, a symbol of high-speed rail services in Poland.

Its introduction significantly reduced travel times between major cities and marked a new chapter in the development of modern passenger transport.

The block forms a visual journey through one hundred years of railway history.

Each stamp is set against a landscape matching the character of the featured vehicle:

❄️ mountain scenery and a historic atmosphere for the Lux-Torpeda,

🌳 traditional railway infrastructure for the Intercity Nieśpieszny,

🌾 contemporary railway routes for the EU160 Griffin,

🏙️ a modern railway station environment for the Pendolino.

Together, the designs present a symbolic overview of Polish railways from pioneering interwar engineering to twenty-first-century solutions.

The FDC designs use the same railway themes as the stamps, presented from different perspectives and in wider compositions.

Each cover highlights one of the railway vehicles featured in the issue and emphasizes its importance in the history of rail transport in Poland.

The commemorative postmark incorporates the official logo of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Polish State Railways, creating a unified visual identity for the entire issue.

Since its establishment in 1926, PKP has played a fundamental role in Poland’s economic, social and transport development.

For a century, the railway network has:

• connected regions across the country,
• supported industry and trade,
• enabled the mobility of millions of passengers,
• contributed to the modernization of national transport infrastructure.

This issue commemorates both the history of Polish railways and their continuing importance to modern Poland.
