Poland 1963 World Fencing Championships in Gdańsk Souvenir sheet no. 38, cancelled
Poland 1963 – Block No. 38 was issued on the occasion of the 28th World Fencing Championships, which took place in Gdańsk. The block contains four impressive stamps depicting dynamic scenes of fencing duels, each in a different color and with a different denomination:
- 40 gr (blue) – two fencers in combat against a backdrop of medieval knights on horseback.
- 60 gr (red) – another duel scene with 17th-century dragoons in the background.
- 1.15 zł (green) – foil fencers fighting with 17th-century swordsmen in the background.
- 1.55 zł (purple) – two fencers fighting with Gdańsk architecture in the background.
At the top of the block is the inscription:
“XXVIII WORLD FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS GDANSK 1963,”
and in the lower right corner is the block numbering.
This block is valued by collectors for its sporting, aesthetic, and historical value – it documents an important international event in post-war Poland.
